welcoming them to memorial services and offering donations to (the gunman) widow and children.

One Amish neighbor was with the gunman's parents when they learned what their son had done.
He held them for an hour as they wept,

 

Accustomed to living quiet, self-sufficient lives apart from the pressures of the world,
the Amish found themselves in an international spotlight for the tragedy and their response to it.

In letters to Die Botschaft, they marveled at the many English (as Amish call outsiders)
who offered support from around the world and wondered whether they could live up to public expectations.
"Are we worthy of their respect?" asked one.
"It was truly humbling to hear what they think of us.
Oh, let us strive anew to let our lights shine!"

É bonito, é um exemplo de Fé e de comportamento perante o mal, para todos,cristãos e não cristãos.
Quantos agiriam assim?

Também é exemplo de como o Cristianismo pode elevar-nos, apesar do horror dos contextos.

Não é uma fixação minha, mas os últimos posts andam por estes lados...
Estes Amish são descendentes directos dos anabaptistas do século XVI. Tiveram os católicos e os protestantes à perna e ficaram estigmatisados com o episódio de Munster e da Guerra dos Camponeses, desencadeados pela ala mais radical dos anabaptistas. Actualmente, e depois de tantos séculos, os Amish, os Menonitas, os Huteritas, estão a ser reabilitados. É dos ramos mais interessantes do Cristianismo.

Apenas a minha forma de pedir que relativizem os meus comentários muitas vezes apressados e superficiais de estilo por vezes panfletário. E de dizer que tenho todo o respeito deste mundo por estas vivências radicais do Evangelho.
